What is the purpose of a Life Group?
The Purpose of Life Groups is to provide an intentional smaller community where followers of Jesus integrate God’s truth into their lives, seek to live out the gospel with one another, and celebrate by sharing life with others.
Where do we find Life Groups in the Bible?
Acts 2:42-47 serves as a key biblical passage that illustrates intentional community.
And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
Act 2:42-47 ESV
What are the Core Values of a Life Group?
1 Jesus Christ – A life group is a place where the truths of scripture get integrated into life. Together a Life Group will seek to “live out” the gospel with each other and be formed spiritually into the likeness of Jesus.
2 The Body – A life group provides a place where others know who you are, they miss you when you’re not there, they get involved in your life, they care about you and for you. A Life Group celebrates interdependence.
3 Service – A healthy life group will also have an outward focus by intentionally blessing and expressing Christ’s love to others.
How often do Life Groups meet?
What is the commitment?
Most Life Groups will meet twice a month for approximately two hours. Leaders [facilitators and/or hosts] of each Life Group determine the initial meeting days and times. Find one that best suits your schedule and interests. Your commitment to this Life Group is for 11 months with anticipated breaks for holidays. Each January there will be a re-signup process during which Life Groups can be “shuffled” or some may choose to continue as is.
What do we do at a Life Group gathering?
Most Life Groups will have light refreshments, a study and prayer. The studies vary from inductive Bible study, book studies, to Bible study/topic videos. Many of the videos will be available through RightNowMedia.org – a FREE on-demand resource you can watch anywhere, any time.
What is the Life Group schedule for the year?
First tri-mester: January – March (ish) (Easter)
Second tri-mester: April – June (end of school)
Third tri-mester: September – November (Thanksgiving)
What about my kids?
Some Life Groups have the capacity to be “family friendly,” and provide childcare while others do not. Most have indicated this on the sign up sheets. Contact specific leaders for details.
How do I become a Life Group leader?
Complete the Life Group Leader Questionnaire (available at the Welcome Kiosk or the church office) and then contact Mike Brock, HHILIFE2003@yahoo.com or give him a call, 843-290-3744. We are always looking for passionate leaders to either serve as facilitators or hosts.
What if I was in a Life Group last year?
Do I need to sign up again?
Yes. We understand many Life Groups really “click” and would like to stay together. We celebrate that! You should rush to the sign up table or go online and sign up as soon as possible. Having everyone sign up again:
1 Helps you renew your commitment.
2 Opens the opportunity for some in the groups to explore other groups.
3 Encourages growth in your group as we anticipate some from your group stepping up and leading their own group.
